Current Events:
1. Choose an article from either:
The Southland Times
Southland Express/The Eye
Kiwi kids news website (the link is on this blog under 'Great Learning Websites'
2. Write these headings in your Homework Book:

Why:
How:
3. Read your chosen article and take the key words and details from the article and place by each heading. Remember you need ALL of the key facts and information.
4. Now write your own article based on the facts you recorded. It needs to be re-written in your own words and must contain enough information so the audience fully understands your article. It should be around 3-4 paragraphs long. (Remember - your opening sentence should introduce the article)
5. Give the article a new headline and include a photo/picture. It can be the one used in the article or you can find a new one that represents the article appropriately.
You may wish to do a draft of your article in your Homework book so you can revise and edit your writing to create an attention grabbing article!

Remember: each person in your group venture may spend up to $5.00 on items but your parents may choose to donate other items.
Your group order to Miss Brown must be in by Wednesday after school - we will talk about this more in class.

Camp Photo Collage:
Create your collage of photos from Tautuku Camp that you want to use in your Exploding Card.
Use an A4 sheet of paper - place small photos on the page
You can colour print them at home or bring them to school on a pendrive and they can be printed in black and white.
Bring along any ribbon, 'sparkly bits' etc that you may want to use in your card.

Your main focus this week is your persuasive argument speech:
- Decide on what stance you are going to take in your speech - for or against?
- Decide on 3-4 main points that you are going to talk about
- Start collecting facts and points of views - write where they come from (e.g. www.the factsite.com) this website looks great if you want to include unusual facts in your speech!
- Write an introduction that captures the audiences attention. Use a rhetorical question or a fact or humour and persuasive language to achieve this.
- Group our information into paragraphs
- Start to gather ideas for your conclsion
Be prepared to share your information on Friday.
ALSO don't forget your items for our camp fundraising stall on Friday!

Kapa Haka design logo and kowhaiwhai competition due this Friday (so they can be checked before being entered)
Keep practicing the Sasa! (this is very important)
