HOMEWORK Week 5

 Students doing Social Studies fair only have to complete spelling and reading from this sheet. 

You have to hand in your notes and the work you have completed so far, on Friday.

Activity 1:      READING

You are expected to read for at least 15 mins each night.

·      Record your nightly reading in your reading log in the back of your book.

Activity 2:      SPELLING

You have 10 words to learn for Friday’s test. Practice your words EACH night for success.

·      A good way to learn your words is the following for each word:

·      Copy the word – Read – Cover – Spell – Check if correct.

·      Practice your words in your Homework book

Activity 3:       DRAGON MATHS

 Remember to colour in the thumb at the top of the page in your Dragon Maths book – this shows me how you difficult or easy you found the work.

Hetty Feather.

This book is about a little girl called Hetty Feather. Hetty Feather was put into care when she was  young, and has now, (since she is 5,) been taken back to hospital to train as a maid. Hetty has a dream that her brother, (whose mum adopted Hetty,) Jem will someday come and find her. When Hetty and Jem sneak off to see the circuse Hetty thinks that she has found her mother, for this lady has bright orange hair, ( just like Hetty). But when Hetty finds out that she is not her mother she continues to search. When Hetty got seprated from her other, (foster,) brother when they both arrived at the hospital she wants to know if hes okay, but the nurses won't let her. So Hetty dresses up as a boy, (for she has short hair,) so she can go see her brother, Gideon. When she gets caught she gets into SERIOUS trouble. When Hetty plans to run away, will she get free or will she be found?
I recommend this book for ages 9 and up.

No David !

No David is about a book where David is really naughty, loud and disgusting. He draws on the walls, he play's with his food, he eats all of the cookies, he brings mud into the house, he over flows the bath, he run's down streets naked and he bangs pots and pans about. David is very naughty until he is very tired and takes himself off to bed.

Ritchie McCaw a tribute to the modern day great

The book on how Ritchie McCaw got to be as good as he is right now. This is a very good book on Ritchie ever since he became an all black at the age of twenty two.RitchieMcCaw is one of the the best flanker in the world and all ways will be.

101 cool science experiments is a fantastic book that well keep you entertained for a while you can learn to make cool things like invisible ink , under water volcano and lots more " I have not finished read the book but I can't wait " this is a really cool book and I would recommend this book year threes and up because they are some tricky words

If you are sick of being told when to go to bed then fuss no longer I have the book for you.'101 EXCUSES' is a book about a boy who needs to break records, read the unread bedtime stories, save the world and stop alien invasions.

Dork Diaries

Dork diaries is about a girl called Nikki Maxwell. Nikki is not a very popular girl.Really she is the opposite of popular(witch means she's a dork). In this book it is all about Nikki. At Nikki's old school she had no friends to play with,eat lunch with or hang out with.So now she think moving to a new school is going to make her life better.Find out what happens to Nikki Maxwell next?

jungle war!

jungle war is an awesome book about a man called Taggart that is in a military prison and he used to be in the army. There is a guy called sergeant Andrews who keeps coming into his cell with some other people with batons and beating him up. One day Andrews comes in and tries to beat you up but he grabs the baton and punches Andrews in the head knocking him out.Later on in the story the army needs to get together a bunch of skilled people to do a jungle mission and the army got together a bunch of criminals including Taggart and thats how he got back into the army.

'For BOYS only'

This book has fun ideas for boys such as making fake blood,how to build a simple tree hut it also tells you how to fly a plane that is about to crash land and how to escape from being tied up. It tells you about some history of famous people,the most dangerous animals in the world,the fastest cars in the world too and how much the cars are and the biggest them parks in the world. I recomend this for 8+. The author is Marc Aronson.

Hello

Hello for the 3rd time! We are in Santa Monica now and the weather has not been very nice. The first few days were alwrite but now it has gone windy and cold. Did you know that they have 340 days of sun here?! Imagine that! We have done lots more shopping and we have also hired bikes and biked the bike trail that they have here. My dad brought me a snowboard and we now have to (somehow) get it home on the plane. Today we walked down 3rd street Promenade which has lots of shops. In two days (on Monday) we are getting up at 5:00 for our 9:00 flight to Hawaii. We are getting picked up at 6:15 to be taken to the airport. Yesterday whe we were on the bike trail I got a really bad sunburn on my arms, neck and legs. Im hoping that it will soon turn into a tan though!
That is all, I will tell you the rest when we get back! (which is only a week!)

Adaptations - Katy and Bianca

Hello!!

Hello again!! I hope you had a fun day back at school! We are staying in San Fransisco now, but only for two days. The weather is still nice but the wind can sometimes pick up. Once we leave San Fransisco we are driving for about 7 and a half hours to Santa Monica. We are staying there for 5 days then we are going to Hawaii for 4 days before coming home. My suitecase is so full that I dont think I can fit much more in it!! It is not long now until we come home (just under 2 weeks) and i cant wait to get back! (despite the thought of coming back to winter!) We have taken LOTS of photos and I will hopefully beable to bring them sometime to show you. Today we went on a boat to a prison island called Alcatraz. It was where all the REALLY bad people use to go instead of normal prison. Tomorrow we are getting on a hop on-hop off bus that will take us around San Fransisco. We are able to hop on and hop off where ever we want to (thats why its called the hop on-hop off bus) We will ptobably do that for the day then on Tuesday, (here it will be Tuesday and in NZ it will be Wednesday,were also 5 hours ahead of you,) we are driving to Santa Monica.
